Information and Digital Literacies (face-to-face) - Group 3 In-Person

NB: This course accrues 5 training points.

NB: this course should only be taken by PGR students. It is an essential course prior to Upgrade from MPhil to PhD.

The information and digital literacies course focuses on the centrality of the literature review for the doctoral thesis. The aim of the course is to develop your information and digital literacies.  More specifically, the aims ensure that you learn:

  • to learn how to construct searches and develop search strategies using databases;
  • to learn how to critically evaluate information sources using tried and tested methods, including citation analysis;
  • to understand the importance of historical inquiry;
  • to understand the ethical implications of citing and re-using data;
  • to develop digital identities, including learning how to use software to organise and manage information, keep current with research in your area and use social media for networking, collaborating and disseminating your research;
  • to learn about other libraries and how to access collections outside UCL; and
  • to learn how to begin to formulate a data management plan.

Expectations

This is an intensive course and you are expected to complete the weekly readings and tasks.
