Your Network is Your Net Worth: Building Connections That Count

Doctoral study can feel isolating, but it doesn't have to be. Strategic networking is one of the most powerful tools in your PhD or EdD toolkit, opening doors to collaboration, publication opportunities, career advancement, and a thriving academic community.

In this practical workshop, Prof Richard Freeman will guide you through:

• Why networking matters: From avoiding isolation to securing collaborations and getting published

• Strategic planning: Identifying the right people to connect with and what you can offer them

• Where to network: Conferences, reading groups, committees, learned societies, and online platforms (LinkedIn, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and more)

• Maximising conference participation: Strategies for before, during, and after - from choosing the right events to making memorable connections over coffee breaks

• Online networking: Navigating digital platforms effectively while maintaining professional boundaries

You'll gain actionable strategies for building and maintaining networks that support both your doctoral journey and your future career. Whether you're naturally outgoing or find networking daunting, this session will equip you with practical techniques to connect with confidence.

In London's rich academic landscape, you're uniquely positioned to create powerful networks. Learn how to make the most of it!
